Chevrolet and Cadillac’s Contributions to the 2016 Washington Auto Show

Posted on

The Washington Auto Show is an auto show that happens annually in DC, and is where all makes get to show off their new creations for upcoming years and concepts that are in the works. This is the Comic Con of the car business, where car super fans flock to see what their favorite brands have to offer in the future. From Chevy to Aura to Aston Martin and everything in between, the Auto Show has something for all different car enthusiasts. This event attracts thousands of visitors… in fact, last year the event lasted a week and had over 400,000 attendees!  Both Chevrolet and Cadillac have a few vehicles of their own on display for this year…but don’t feel the need to go to the show to get the 411.

Chevrolet

The first and most anticipated vehicle from Chevy’s new lineup is the Chevrolet Bolt EV- Chevy’s first all-electric vehicle concept! Chevrolet is a little late to this party considering that electric vehicles have been around for several years now, but this is a game-changing concept… this is planned to be a long-range EV with a 200 mile capability.bolt

GM says that development details are still in the works, but the target price of this vehicle is around only $30,000 and will be built at the Orion Assembly Facility in Michigan. A production date has yet to be announced, but we can’t wait to learn more about this all-new electric addition to the Chevy lineup.

Chevrolet also had on display the concept for the all-new Chevrolet Cruze. This newer Chevy staple has been redesigned to be sleeker, larger, and lighter. In addition to this, a long-awaited Hatchback is being added to this lineup. This addition is hoped to be added in 2016.

cruzeChevy worked to slim down the construction of the Cruze by using lighter materials, but also was able to provide drivers with more room in the new design. The Cruze comes in 4 trim levels, and even the base model (the L) comes with rear back-up camera and 7-inch touch screen.

Cadillac

One of Cadillac’s features is the all new 2017 Cadillac XT5. This new line is designed to be one of the first luxury brand crossover vehicles out there.

This vehicle is designed to increase efficiency for the user in many ways. It is made with a lightweight construction that promotes fuel economy and better handling, as well as xt5.jpgbeing designed more efficiently in terms of space. The all-new XT5 maximizes interior space without having a bulky feel.

This new vehicle is Cadillac’s first crossover vehicle, but fits right in with the luxurious and distinct exterior look. Cadillac’s most important point in creating this new model was keeping their appreciation for fine craftsmanship, and this theme continues into the sophisticated interior. More photos will be available soon!

Cadillac’s second offering is the Cadillac CT6….the best of the best, if you will. The goal in mind with this new design was to push the limits of luxury for Cadillac shoppers, and was inspired by sedans from overseas.ct6.jpg

The CT6 is a combination of lightweight construction, intense power, and classy feel. With features like an all-new Quadzone climate control, Bose “Panaray” sound system (that has 34 speakers…can anybody say dance party?!), surround-view camera that provides a 360 degree view of the surroundings of the car, and new rear camera mirror, the CT6 is definitely going to provide you with a luxury riding experience.

This year’s auto show was closed the first few days due to the blizzard, but will be running through Sunday, January 31, 2016.  You can find details here: http://www.washingtonautoshow.com/schedule-of-events/.  Make sure you stop by and let us know what you think! Winter Driving: A Few Tips to Keep You Prepared

Posted on

Winters here in Maryland are a roller coaster….we’ve had days in the teens and days in the 70s so far since December. I personally am not a fan of the cold. Once the temperatures actually reflect the season, the winters here are brutal! Cold temperatures and blistering winds are not my thing. As much as I hate them, driving in these conditions can be a nightmare for both you and your car too. It’s best to take a few extra precautions while driving in winter weather to make sure that you are being safe for those around you, and to make sure you aren’t putting yourself in any danger. Here are a few tips to make sure you are being as safe as possible!

Kitty Littershutterstock_148445690

Wait….how did this conversation go from winter weather to kitty litter? I actually learned this tip on Facebook, go figure,  and have seen it put to the test. This trick works best with vehicles that are rear-wh
eel drive. Kitty litter actually helps for when you find yourself on a icy and slippery road that your car can’t seem to get itself out of. Simply pour a good amount of kitty litter behind your rear axle, and this will help your vehicle gain traction, and ultimately get you on the road again. Easy and affordable!

Extra Supplies

The easiest way to ensure you are prepared is to have an extra set of some items that you keep permanently in your car. I always have a small first aid kit, a flare, a phone charger, and a set of jumper cables in my emergency trunk kit. But for a winter specifically, there are some additional items that I will keep just in case.winter_car_kit

  1. Ice scraper- for those winter days where the wintry mix comes before the snow and sticks to all the windows.
  2. A blanket and a hoodie- in case your car breaks down and no one is able to reach you immediately, keep these two things in your trunk so you can stay warm if this emergency       happens to you.
  3. A flashlight- with it getting dark in the winter here right around 5pm, this can make incidents harder to handle if you happen to get into an accident. Keep this with you so if you run into wintry conditions on your way home from work, you have a light to help you look around the car if need be.

Be More Attentive

Some of the biggest mistakes that people make while driving in wintry conditions are not being attentive enough with basic driving maneuvers and behaviors.  My dad taught me a 3 step saying to help me make sure I knew exactly what to do in the snow, from preparing beforehand to getting on the road and driving in it if I had to: earlier, cleaner, slower. Make sure you prepare to leave earlier than you typically would to make sure it’s safe to get to your car. Once you’re ready to leave, make sure your car is completely cleaned off of all snow debris..snow flying off of a car can be dangerous and cause an accident to those behind you if snow flies off of your car. Finally, whatever you’re doing while driving, do it slower. Take turns at a slower speed, drive more slowly than you typically would, and break more slowly to prevent slipping or hitting the person in front of you.

Get a Car Check Up

With the extreme temperatures and the possibility of ice and snow, the easiest way to make sure your car runs right in the winter is to keep your service and maintenance up to date and make sure your car is ready for the climate changes. One of the easiest fixes is getting a set of new winter performance tires. This way, you know the traction on them is designed to help driving in icy and snowy roads. If you already have a newer set of tires, make sure the tire pressure on them is set accordingly. Make sure you have a full strength battery as well! Having an old battery in extreme cold can leave you stranded, and this is a relatively easy fix. Lastly, an easy and inexpensive change is to replace your windshield wipers. During a snow storm when visibility is already way  down, having winter wipers is a simple way to guarantee that you will be seeing clearer in horrible weather.

The New 2016 Chevrolet Malibu- redesigned to be sleek, luxurious, and…affordable! Say what?!

Posted on

Malibu1

Those three words aren’t typically used to describe the same thing, but after learning the ins and outs of the all new Malibu, this is exactly what comes to mind. An all new body style designed to look sleek and aerodynamic with new available safety and technology features make this vehicle a perfect fit with any driver. Here is our review of the 2016 Chevy Malibu.

Malibu2

Looking at the exterior, the 2016 Malibu is very different than the previous body style. The new design brings a sporty yet polished look to one of Chevy’s most popular vehicles. New available LED all-day running lamps and chrome-accented front grille provide striking finishing touches complete the sculpted front of the vehicle. The 2016 also comes with available dual rear exhausts and LED tail lights, giving the back the same sporty finish. Now let’s get to the good part….what’s inside!

Safety

Chevy really focused on safety being packed in to the Malibu with this redesign. New available safety features like the Low Speed Front Automatic Breaking and Lane Keep Assist help drivers prevent accidents before they are even at risk of happening, ensuring you are safest at all times. We all know that accidents happen, and if that’s the case in the new Malibu, this vehicle has been designed with 10 airbags that work with a 360 degree sensor to detect where impacts have hit your car hardest, and adjust the airbag inflation as needed. On Star is available as well so when your air bags have deployed, an advisor immediately connects to your Malibu and can call for emergency help if needed.

The Malibu also now has one of Chevy’s most innovative features- Teen Driver. Through this available feature, parents can set limitations on vehicle speed and volume of music in the car. Also, the Malibu works to keep you informed by sending you notifications when certain safety features had to be engaged while driving. Your precious cargo will be safer than ever in the new Malibu.

Technology

The Malibu’s new available technology features help both drivers and passengers make sure the vehicle occupants are always connected. Available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, these two systems make sure that whatever type of phone you have (I am team iPhone!), the Malibu is able to provide you with the same benefits. Both of these systems help display your music, texts, calendars and more through the Malibu’s touch-screen display.

One of my favorite things about the new Malibu…available 4G LTE wi-fi access! Isn’t it the worst when you go over on your data for the month? Every new Malibu comes with a 3 month/3 GB free trial so you can see how awesome it is for yourself. This feature makes sure you are always connected to your favorite apps and information.

Performance

The Malibu is a great option to consider if you are a car driver who looks for performance and efficiency. With auto-stop, the Malibu goes into an idle mode once coming to a complete stop which saves you gas and increases vehicle efficiency. The new Malibu has an estimated 37 MPG highway…need I say more?

Also, the new Malibu has an available 2.0L ECOTEC turbocharged engine that offers a whopping 250 horsepower. Pairing this with an automatic 8-speed transmission (available on the Malibu premier), this provides the sporty performance to pair with the exterior.

Other Convenience Features

The Malibu is truly packed with features that make your ride as comfortable as possible with these other available options:

-Push start and remote start

-Bluetooth capable

-Sirius Satellite Radio

-USB charging ports

And there’s more….how’s that even possible?

The most shocking about all of this is… the starting MSRP of the all-new Malibu is $21,625. Enough said.
